Which would have presented a problem, since everything in Looking Glass Land pretty much remained the same.
After all, the entire world is a game of chess on a checkerboard surface. Thus Alice couldn't do anything in response
to the checkmate but to curtsey. Come to think of it, the Queen was on a square which belonged to
Tweedledum and Tweedledee. Alice took this in just as if it made perfect sense, which it didn't.
