Amaryllis For Alice 28 x 36 Oil On Canvas

The beautiful flower, named for the Greek nymph, Amaryllis, synthesizes all that is to come in both volumes by Lewis Carroll.

In "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", the young Alice searches desperately to be just the right size to fit through the doorways

and paths which lead to the beauty of the garden, here symbolized by the Amaryllis. In the second volume,

"Through the Looking-Glass", The chess board, which is a metaphor for the measured struggles of life, is here reflected in

a single drop of water. There it hangs, suspended in time, as a prelude to the mysteries Alice will encounter

by venturing through the looking glass.
